Note, if you build MADNESS yourself, you must also configure MADNESS with --enable-stub-mpi to enable this option. # BLAS and LAPACK TiledArray requires a serial BLAS implementation, either by linking with a serial version of the BLAS library or by setting the number of threads to one (1) with an environment variable. This is necessary because TiledArray handles parallelism with tasks, and attempting to run threaded BLAS function inside tasks will over subscribe the hardware cores. By default, TiledArray configure will search your system for compatible BLAS and LAPACK libraries. However, it is recommended you specify the BLAS and LAPACK libraries if there is a serial version available since CMake will prefer the threaded version of the library. Both of these may require multiple levels of tiling hierarchy. Unfortunately, it may not be trivial to decouple or overlap the two hierarchies. Thus we eschew the arbitrarily-deep tiling hierarchy in favor of a single level of tiling. (N.B. customization of the tile types is possible, and thus can be used to create hierarchies of tiles) This design decision is driven by the following considerations: 1) the end user should not worry about tiling for performance, the interface should be focused on the needs of domain application (quantum physics). 2) tiling in quantum physics corresponds to spatial/energetic locality (outside local domains interactions are classical and do not require operator matrices) or symmetry (not always worth it, point group symmetry conflicts with the "local" tiling). 3) the problem of tiling for performance is challenging and has been only solved for simple cases and regular memory hierarchies (e.g. BLAS). It allows users to compose tensor expressions of arbitrary complexity in native C++ code that closely resembles the standard mathematical notation. The framework is designed to scale from a single multicore computer to a massive distributed-memory multiprocessor. TiledArray is built on top of MADNESS parallel runtime (MADWorld), part of [MADNESS numerical calculus framework](https://github.com/m-a-d-n-e-s-s/madness). TiledArray is a work in progress.
